Newborns these days

Brussels newborn photographer-24

I simply love working with new babies and new families. Whether you are welcoming your first or fourth baby, there is something so lovely about these first days as your heart grows and you learn to love each other and each other’s presence.

Although they are often called newborn sessions, I prefer to call them new family sessions because there is so much richness and beauty beyond just the sweet babe. We always involve the whole family. Mother, father, siblings, grandparents. I have even hosted dogs and cats in the studio. ๐Ÿ™‚

When you arrive for your newborn session, we take time to pick from the many lovely knits and fabrics, simple but elegant props I have on hand on the studio. I love it when parents bring in a meaningful blanket or soft toy that we can incorporate. We follow the mood of the baby, stopping when feeding or cuddles are needed.

Over the course of a newborn session we usually work in 5 – 6 settings for the baby and then move into family pictures. I hope to capture the sweetness of your family and the sense of coming adventure together.

Continuing my “these days” series, I am happy to share Newborns these days with the lovely Emma who joined her mom, dad, grand mother and big brother for this relaxed and joyful session.

A look back: Among the bluebells mini session

Dancing in the sea
Dancing in the sea

Now in the fullness of summer, spring feels like a sweet memory when we looked eagerly for the first leaves in the trees and then delighted at the explosion of color and sweet smells. Yumm. This spring was also marked by one of my favorite and sure to be a perennial mini session in the sea of bluebells covering the Hallerbos Forrest. I hope you all had a chance to check it out this year.

One day of mini sessions quickly became two and in the end 15 gorgeous families joined me in the woods for this special event. I am happy to share some of the photos with you today. Enjoy the breath of fresh air. ๐Ÿ™‚

First look: Sea of leaves mini session

The Sea

Is it already time to get nostalgic about fall? Winter is closing in and with it all the good cheer, rosy cheeks and holiday treats we love in late November/early December. I am especially excited about this Christmas as it will be the first in which bababoo is actually aware of what is happening. Also the first that I can use the lightly veiled threat “Santa only brings presents to little girls who eat all their vegetables”. Yes!

Before we step into our red, white and sparkles. I wanted to share some of the beautiful pictures from the recent “Sea of Leaves” mini sessions held in Parc Cinquantiaire on one of the most gorgeous fall days of the year. Seriously, I am afraid I am using up all my good weather karma in one go. But hey, it feels good. ๐Ÿ™‚

The fall mini sessions were such a hit that I am definitely planning more. The ingredients will remain the same: 30 minute sessions at a great price, a very special seasonal location and beautiful family photos. Send me a note or leave a comment if you want to get on the mailing list.

Without further ado, enjoy!

First look: Falling in love with fall family sessions

Fall in love
Fall in love

There are many reasons why I love my job butย right now the top one is the sheer amount of time I am spending in luscious Brussels parks photographing beautiful families. To get very photography nerdish on you, the best thing of all is the light. Low, even and golden, it literally makes everyone glow. No wonder that this fall is shaping up to be one of my busiest ever. To top things off, due to the shortening of days, the so called “golden hour” is currently in reach even for our little people with the best light between 9:30 – 11 and 4 – 6pm. Hooray!

Today I share a very fun session set in one of my favorite parks, Parc du Cinquantenaire. At almost two, Leni-Marie was full of happy energy and played and laughed and let me chase her around with a camera for a good 90 minutes. A really wonderful time with a really wonderful family. Please enjoy.

First look: Where the heart is

Where the heart is

Spring, spring, spring! Here we come. There are flowers, new leaves, good smells and smiling faces. Between the early thaw and some time away in Australia, it almost feels like winter just breezed by. Spring brings many new things and in the Bear & Dragon studio, it means lots of gorgeous new babies.

I had the pleasure of stepping out of the studio for a wonderful session with three week old Charlotte and her parents. Don’t get me wrong, I love the studio and the space I work in but it was also fun to work in a new space on a nice sunny day to captures some special moments. Being photographed in your home brings a different quality to the images. They feel more like memories. A slice of a time that whizzes by and almost seems surreal when looking back. I am grateful to have been asked to photograph this beautiful and growing family.

Happy family

Happy Sunday people! Time is flying by and it is already the first of September. Wow! Somehow it feels just as it should. Warm but with a little nip to the air. The quality of the light is softer. Blackberries and figs are coming into season. Some tree you can just tell, are thinking about turning gold, orange and red.

On this lovely Sunday morning, I am excited to share some snaps from a recent newborn shoot. Welcome to the world Ethan!

First look: Gabriela and Michael

Tickle war

Is scheduling an outdoor session, even in the depths of a wet Brussels summer, possible? Yes! With a sliding schedule for the last two weekends, its hard to tell but now I submit proof. It was a beautiful sunny day when I met Gabriela and Michael out in Parc Woluwe and the result was some beautiful images.

Lucky to find a gorgeous hillside covered in buttercups, we ran around, looked at bugs and generally had a great time. I even had the chance to practice my Swedish with the tri-lingual Michael (these Brussels kids amaze me!).ย Please enjoy.

Next weekend looks to have some pleasant weather. Drop me a note if you are interested in scheduling an outdoor session to capture this rare but stunning event. ๐Ÿ™‚

The whole world

What do you do when you want to give a special gift to your professional cello playing husband to celebrate the birth of your third beautiful son? How about taking it to the next level – baby in a cello case!

I was so happy to work with the lovely Evelyn and her eight week old son Mateo to create some special images to surprise Daddy. Mateo was kind enough to slumber away while we made him comfortable in the cello case and grabbed some great shots. Who knows, maybe Daddy’s next album cover. ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy!

The wait is finally over. Birds are singing, leaves are unfurling, the sun dares to shine and the temperature creeps into the double digits most days. Spring! What a wonderful thing. I am so excited to soon start booking outdoor portrait sessions. I am picturing green hills with blooming trees. Can you see it?

This morning I am happy to share a recent photoshoot with the dynamic duo of Yuliyana and Emma. Keeping with the Brussels theme of internationalization, Emma is a Bulgarian-American beauty with soulful eyes and the very sweetest smile. I was so happy to get to play and photography this lovely mother and daughter. Enjoy!
