First look: The shape of motherhood

Image
In blue

There must be something in the air. The gorgeous pregnant mommas are all dropping by for beautiful maternity sessions! The one I share today took an especially soulful approach. Drawing inspiration from antique photomatons that let you take four different pictures, just enough to capture the shapes that made up a whole. So we sought to capture some unconventional angles on the blooming relationship between a mother and her soon-to-be little one.

On the topic of mommas soon to be, it is just 18 days until my impending due date! Very excited, a little nervous, to welcome my little boy into the family. Wish us luck!

First look: Kasia and Gianfranco Maternity Session

Image

This much fun at a photo shoot should be illegal. It all started when Kasia’s best friend Amelia contacted me for a last minute maternity session to be done while she was visiting Brussels. Luckily things fell into place and we were able to schedule that week.

So what happens when a Polish beauty meets her Italian prince? A whole lot of fun, that’s what. Baby blanket togas and lots of strawberries later, we had our set. I present those most fit for public consumption. 🙂

Happy family

Happy Sunday people! Time is flying by and it is already the first of September. Wow! Somehow it feels just as it should. Warm but with a little nip to the air. The quality of the light is softer. Blackberries and figs are coming into season. Some tree you can just tell, are thinking about turning gold, orange and red.

On this lovely Sunday morning, I am excited to share some snaps from a recent newborn shoot. Welcome to the world Ethan!

Bear & Dragon does Weddings

Under the flowers

We were feeling the love on a gorgeous June day in Fryksås, Sweden where I had the pleasure of being both a guest and photographer for our two lovely friends, Peter and Karin.

I have to admit, I loved it! Capturing a sweet and enduring love, the emotional moments of the ceremony and the joy after. I am hooked. Looking forward to expanding in this direction for the 2014 Wedding season. Feel the love. 🙂

A walk in in the Park with the Brussels Sprouts

Brussels Sprout blog (1 of 1)

Way back in distant memory, I was medium pregnant with Bababoo and wondering how the heck I was going to manage to have and raise a baby in a foreign country. A Google search did not yield much but it did point me in the direction of the Bxl Sprouts blog by expat momma extraordinaire, Sandra Amorim. Lots of great stuff about local resources, child development and reflections on momming in a foreign land.

Fast forward two years and the thought occurred to me, what a great idea to invite the Brussels Sprouts for a photo session. Well we made it happen! Sandra was kind enough to write about our morning on her blog. You can read all about it here!

If you are not yet following the Bxl Sprouts, you should! Its a great read!

Tickle war

Is scheduling an outdoor session, even in the depths of a wet Brussels summer, possible? Yes! With a sliding schedule for the last two weekends, its hard to tell but now I submit proof. It was a beautiful sunny day when I met Gabriela and Michael out in Parc Woluwe and the result was some beautiful images.

Lucky to find a gorgeous hillside covered in buttercups, we ran around, looked at bugs and generally had a great time. I even had the chance to practice my Swedish with the tri-lingual Michael (these Brussels kids amaze me!). Please enjoy.

Next weekend looks to have some pleasant weather. Drop me a note if you are interested in scheduling an outdoor session to capture this rare but stunning event. 🙂

First look: Welcome to the world Naia

Welcome little angel

It is a very special thing to be ask to take newborn photos. This is one of the most special times to capture and often to then share with family and friends, this is our baby! After a great maternity session, I was excited to hear that Little Naia entered the world in early May and to then have the whole family in the studio a mere 12 days later.

We take our time with newborn session, working at a comfortable pace with breaks for feeding, holding and kisses. It was a blast playing with little shoes and hats, vintage baby blankets and of course plenty of pictures of the new family together. I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

The whole world

What do you do when you want to give a special gift to your professional cello playing husband to celebrate the birth of your third beautiful son? How about taking it to the next level – baby in a cello case!

I was so happy to work with the lovely Evelyn and her eight week old son Mateo to create some special images to surprise Daddy. Mateo was kind enough to slumber away while we made him comfortable in the cello case and grabbed some great shots. Who knows, maybe Daddy’s next album cover. 🙂 Enjoy!
